  • Many lgbt teenagers and young adults growing up on the internet today have socially conservative beliefs that they voice at all times that they got from their conservative parents which they’ve never challenged because they think the life experience of being gay or trans makes them politically progressive

  • This is why I hate it when people say something homophobic and then go “so you’re really accusing me, a whole ass lesbian, of being homophobic 🙄” like yeah

  • There's a model of culture that I like to cite for this idea, called the Iceberg Model:

    image

The LGBT youth (and young atheists, too) will cut off the stuff "above the water" but not really examine the stuff down below that line that they have as part of their upbringing.

So you get young LGBT people making comments like OP cited, or young atheists acting with an Evangelical persecution complex, and going, "Don't call me Culturally Christian!"

  • This is the sort of thing I keep talking about when I’m saying identity is not the same as ideology.

Who you identify as (who you are) says absolutely nothing about what you believe (your ideology).

  • the older i get, the more i need time & personal space to be as boring as possible

  • I understand old men sitting on porches staring at an empty field more now than ever.

  • cannot fathom living with the mindset of happy trails being anything other than valid and hot. for every gender. like what a miserable existence to feel otherwise

  • I wish there were different words for the different types of forgetting because  when I say I forgot something, I don’t mean “I forgot we had plans on Friday.” I almost always mean “I forgot today was Friday.” I know my friend’s birthday is on March 20th, but I won’t wish her happy birthday on time because I won’t know it’s March 20th on March 20th. My forgetfulness has nothing to do with not caring about/remembering events and everything to do with my inability to keep up with the passage of time.

  • My most common one is being 100% certain I did the thing already because the memory of doing it and the memory of intending to do it are the same mental images.

  • unironically adore chess set designers whose central design principle seems to have been "how can I make a position as hard to parse as possible"

  • Line cooks and the weed man do more for the human race every day than any CEO has ever done in their entire life

  • 80% of the line cooks ARE the weed men

  • Carrying the weight of the whole world on their shoulders like Atlas

  • Atlas carries the sky, but point made

  • I carry your dad into the bedroom like a newlywed bride

  • My mom just snitched that she found a tenth-edition "canadian sex manual from 1943" in my grandma's possession while helping her move

  • yeah fuck it my family line carries the forbidden techniques. contact me if you want to get meated northern outlaw strong style.

  • “Girls gays and theys” <- uninclusive while trying to be inclusive. Bad. Makes me uncomfortable.

“Ladies, gentlemen, and other distinguished guests” <- inclusive but far, far too formal

“Alrighty gamers” <- Incisive of everyone, informal, and fun to say.

  • “Everypony” <== pisses everyone off.  flawless

  • It's PRIDE MONTH baby which means I am obligated to say:

    • Bisexual attraction covers the full gender spectrum and does not exclusively mean "two genders".
    • Saying that other sexualities are "trans inclusive" is weird, because trans woman is not a different gender than woman. Trans man is not a different gender than man.
    • Furthermore: Nonbinary people have always been included as a part of bisexual attraction (y'all see the purple line of the Bi flag?).
    • The label of pansexual, omnisexual, etc, or even just mspec are fucking valid and are not inherently biphobic.
    • Bisexuality is not inherently panphobic, or any of the other things listed in the bullet above.
    • Biromantic Asexuals exist. I will fight you on this.
    • Aromantic Bisexuals exist. I will fight you on this x2.
